Blakedown Bolt 10k – 19 June 2015

This is a very popular Friday evening race which is now in its 9th year with Race HQ at Blakedown Sports Field.  This is a friendly event with bar, BBQ, tea/coffee, cakes and sweets as well as a bouncy castle and children’s playground.  The organisers run the event to raise money for charity and give most of the profits to local sporting related causes.  All finishers receive a unique Blakedown Bolt momento which is a genuine bolt on a ribbon which has been chosen to reflect the traditional forging and tool-making industry that began locally in the 1700’s.

The route itself is scenic and varied with a few hills and stiles. It starts with a lap of the sports field then heads out between Forge Pool and Laides Pool.  Apart from some very short sections on quiet country roads, it’s almost entirely traffic free.  We ran through beautiful Worcerstershire countryside, taking in farmland and woodland, making a loop around Mount Segg as well as a stream crossing before running back for a final lap of the sportsfield.

I ran a personal best for this course finishing in a time of 53:34. Julie
