The Malvern Joggers Cross Country team took part in their 1st Winter cross country of the Hereford Winter Cross Country Season. The race at Croft Castle near Leominster started at 11.00 on Sunday, after a minute’s silence in remembrance. The record field surged off past the water hazard and up a mile long climb, eventually emerging into brilliant sunshine on the Iron Age hill fort.
An exhilarating twisty route, which the rain on the previos day made a muddy, slippy descent into the valley was followed by a steep climb back up to the start. The first lap of three for the men, the ladies having to be content with just one more “half” lap. A total of 11.8km with 380m of ascent and a little over half that for the ladies.
The final challenge was to do justice to the excellent tea, cakes and cider provided by Croft Ambrey at the finish. We were joined by 4 new recruits in Natalie Bennett, Sarah Clarke, Julian Satcell and Mike Bolton all did excellently but especially Sarah and Natalie who were representing the club for the 1st time with Natalie coming in 11th lady !
