About the Malvern JoggersWe are a small but growing band of people who enjoy socialising and jogging. We love new people of all abilities to come and join us for a jog around Malvern, you don't need to be a member and it won't cost you anything, you can just turn up and decide which group you would like to run with. We meet on Wednesday evenings and most Sunday mornings. Please read our risk assessment here first. Due to legal considerations, it is the club's policy not to allow children under 16 years-of-age to run with us. Those between ages 16 to 18 can run with parental consent.
Wednesday Night RunsWe meet every Wednesday at 7:00 pm and run for about an hour. People who run with us range in ability from complete beginners to crazy fell runners and we run in a number of groups to cater for everyone. We always make sure that nobody is ever left behind. No one who runs with us is allowed to run alone, and nobody minds mustering back for the slower runners in any group. There is a lot of overlap between the groups so people who are comfortable running in one can move up to one more challenging. In the Summer, we try and get out and explore the lovely countryside around The Malvern Hills but when it's dark, we keep to the street-lit pavements around Malvern. If you are thinking of starting jogging, you can contact Jenny at JennyF@MalvernJoggers.co.uk for more information on her beginner groups. You can download her flyer by clicking here
The next Wednesday meet will be on 9th of July 2008.
Weekend RunsVarious groups of runners often meet up at the weekend, usually for a longer but slower run than we do on Wednesday nights. (depending on what races are on.) I will try to post the locations of any that I know about here but failing that, please contact Chris (see below).
Well Done Emma
This letter to our club says it all: Hi all at Malvern Joggers, Can I please, through your website, say a MASSIVE congratulations to Emma Gooderham on becoming the British 100km Champion on her debut at the distance in Cardiff at the weekend. Having been there for the best part of the race, Emma made it look very easy, and never really stopped smiling (or was it a grimace??!!) I am fortunate enough to be on the national ultra squad with Emma (yes, there are more of us crazy people!), and her hard work over the past few months has truly paid off. I’m sure you are all very proud to have Emma as a member of Malvern Joggers, and can now claim to have a national champion in your camp! If we can all stay healthy and injury free over the coming months, then Great Britain will have a very strong ladies team heading to the World 100km Championships in Italy in November. Assuming we are both selected, I’m looking forward to having Emma on Team GB and I’m sure she will break the 8 hours next time. WELL DONE AGAIN EMMA YOU DESERVE THE SUCCESS NOW HAVE A GOOD REST AND ENJOY THE FEELING!!!! With best wishes from Adela (Del) Salt of Trentham Running Club in Stoke-on-Trent Thanks Adela and good luck to Team GB in November Incidentally, Emma's time of 8hrs 3mins is the fastest ever in the events 14 year history. * CONGRATULATIONS *Congratulations to our Big Cheese Chris Barker and our Gentle Jogging inspiration Jenny Field for winning their categories in the Herefordshire and Worcestershire County Sports Awards for 2008. Chris won the Community Sports Award, Awarded "to an individual or Club who have made a significant contribution to developing Community Sport with also increasing opportunities for people to be more active". Jenny won the Volunteer of the Year category, awarded "for those who have voluntarily given up their time to Coaching / Involvement to sport from an administrative, organisational or other supporting role".
Jenny, you should have had a shave! There was some very tough competition and many very deserving people were there. The judges, however, recognised the significant role that the Malvern Joggers has in the community and in particular the important contribution that Chris and Jenny make to the success of the Club. Well done, both of you.
Summer Camping WeekendWe are planning another Summer camping and running event this year. This time we will be doing the Cross Bay Challenge across Morecambe Bay on Sunday 10th August. There will be a half marathon run across the bay, mostly on sand and an 8 mile walk going in the opposite direction at the same time so runners and walkers should meet each other somewhere in the bay. Busses will take the runners to the start before the race and the walkers back to the finish at the end of the walk. Runners and Walkers will get wet! (Possibly very wet!!) More information will be posted here when we've decided on where we will be staying. The web site can be found here and the application form here
The Great Malvern PubathalonThis Summer we will be repeating our very successful Pubathalon event on Bank Holiday Monday, 25th August. There are a few pictures from last year in our gallery. The course is about 16 miles in total and includes about 10 pub stops. No legs are more than about 2 miles and we will be collecting money for Acorns Children's Hospice on route. The start (and finish) will be at West Fest in West Malvern, leaving at 12:00 midday. You can view the course here . There are no rules, no entry fee and no prizes. Everyone is welcome to come along and join in the fun, on foot, bicycle or car.

Beacon Race PicturesThank you all for the pictures of the Beacon race. I had well over 500 in the end! I have finally got round to putting a selection of them in the gallery and if that is not enough for you I have managed to make a movie from some of them and have uploaded it to Youtube! You can see it here:
