On a very warm day, this was the 5th anniversary of the Kymin Dash organised by The Spirit of Monmouth Running Club. Race HQ was at the Monmouth School Sports Club and was a 10-15 minute walk from the start. The running route climbed the steep Kymin Road to the Round House at the summit (850ft) where times were recorded for the ‘King’ and ‘Queen’ of the hill. The Wye Valley route then undulated along dry forest tracks through Highmeadow Woods and passed the Suck Stone which is the largest detached boulder in Britain. After the final descent to the River Wye, the last 2.5 miles were relatively flat, following the track of the old Monmouth to Ross railway before joining the Hadnock Road and back to the finish at the Sports Club.
This was a Malvern Joggers Champions League race and first Jogger home was Nic Dauncy in a time of 50:39, followed by Matthew Lancett (52:26), Ben Toon (52:52), Julie Caseley (1:00:50), Jason Protheroe (1:01:33), Mike Bolton (1:01:43), Lynda Broadway (1:11:55), Mike Anstey (1:12:03), Rhian Protheroe (1:12:14) and Vivien Tolley (1:15:26).
