I travelled to Lisbon for their Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon on 18th October. Approximately 15,000 runners were expected for this race. We were bussed in convoys from the Metro station the 30 minute drive to the start in the middle of the very impressive Vasco da Gama Bridge which spans the River Tagus for a 10:30am start. The route was on road with two short sections of cobbles and was basically out and back with the switch back at about 8 miles, finishing at the Parque das Nacoes. The course was relatively flat with a couple of inclines over bridges. The race was well organised and the runners were rewarded with a technical running vest or t-shirt, a bespoke medal, ice cream and a goody bag at the finish.
I finished in a time of 1:50:41, and I was 7th in my age category (FV55) out of 95. Julie
