Nine Malvern Joggers tackled the Saltfest 9 mile multi terrain event on Sunday starting and finishing at Vines Park in Droitwich. The race was part of the Saltfest weekend and raised money for Murray’s Muscles which is a Droitwich based muscular dystrophy charity helping people across the West Midlands.
The race start was staggered, with runners starting in groups of 3 at 20 second intervals to avoid bottlenecks early in the race. The route went along the Droitwich Junction Canal before joining the Worcester-Birmingham canal towpath for approximagely 3 miles, before crossing fields, through Piper’s Hill woods, up a short sharp hill to Hanbury Church, then decending through the Hanbury Hall estate and in front of Hanbury Hall itself. The course then exited the Estate, through a wooded section to the summit of Summer Hill, then downhill back to the Worcester-Birmingham canal at mile 7. Half a mile later we re-joined the Droitwich Junction Canal before the final 1.5 miles to the finish in front of St. Richard’s statue in Vines Park.
Malvern Joggers were led home by Ben Toon in a time of 1:08:34 followed by Trevor Matty (1:10:41), John Bryan (1:15:04), Steve Roode (1:17:44), Mark Cooling (1:18:26), Julie Caseley (1:22:06), Rachel Cashmore (1:23:22), Mike Spragg (1:27:23) and Glyn Davies 1:28:23). Julie
